WHERE THE GRAPE BECOMES WINE

At Bodegas Virgen de la Vega, we make 4 million litres of wine per year.

We built our winery in the year 1965, when we formed the cooperative, and its area then was 1600 m2.

We expanded the facilities in 2001, and now Bodegas Virgen de la Vega occupies 18,000 m2, with capacity for 10 million litres.

THE WINERY IS DIVIDED INTO 3 ZONES:

CONCRETE TANKS PLANT

This is in the old part of the winery, holding the 132 tanks built in 1965.

Their capacity is 13,000 and 26,000 litres. They are in perfect condition and we continue to use them for winemaking.

Concrete is porous and allows the wine to be better oxygenated, and it is also free of electrostatic charge, which helps the wine to clarify and stabilise.

PRESS PLANT.

We built this in 1985.

Here, there are the presses and the steel storage tanks, whose capacity is 2 million litres.

FERMENTATION PLANT.

This dates from 2001. In this part, we have the stainless steel tanks. Their total capacity is 3.5 million litres.

Here also are the bottling and storage zone, and the ageing facility.

Our stock of barrels is renewed completely every 5 years. The barrels we have are of French oak (20%) and American oak (80%).
